Marc Jacobs in NYC: A quick Bio

Marc Jacobs is a VERY well known designer. For most of his life Marc Jacobs wanted to be a fashion designer and a recognized one. Born on April 9, 1963 (47 years) in New York City, Jacobs graduated from the NY High School of Art and Design. He attended afterwards the Parsons New School for Design, a university located in Greenwich Village in NYC concentrating in art and design. As a design student at Parsons, Jacobs was the recipient of the Perry Ellis Award and received the schools highest honors including Design student of the year. In 1986, he designed his first collection with the Marc Jacobs label, especially concentrating in hand- knit sweaters. In 1989 Jacobs and Robert Duffy joined Perry Ellis as Vice President of Women’s Design. In 1992, he received the Women´s Designer of the Year Award for his fabled Grunge collection that wasn’t well received by the fashion community and clients (it was very expensive!). In the fall of 1993, Jacobs founded the Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc., launching Marc Jacobs international Company. He returned with skirts, pants paired with read and green apple leather tops, sheer t shirts and tweed jackets.

Jacobs and Duffy joined Louis Vuitton in 1997 as Artistic Director and Studio Director respectively. He opened his store on Mercer Street in NY Soho district. In 2005, he opened the first multi brand store on Boston Newbury Street and in May 2005 he opened 3 new stores in LA. In 2006, he opened the first store in Paris at Palais Royal, followed with a London location. That same year he started launching Little Jacobs - the brand for little kids- and afterward opened a boutique in Chicago. The company then expanded opening more than 100 stores in the world, in London, Sao Paulo, Milan and Chicago.
Marc Jacobs brand includes flat-front trousers, long skirts and cotton coats in white, gray, blue, and raspberry. Nowadays, he has three brands: Little Jacobs designed for children; Marc by Marc Jacobs, the democratized fashion line that is not very expensive (prices ranges from 150 dollars to 700) and Marc Jacobs the exclusive expensive one.
